Airport Design - Communal Space
This design creates an area for passengers with long layovers and delays, a common space that relieves anxiety and stress by escaping the chaotic environment of the terminals and security. Exploring passengers needs and wants within an airport, research revealed that those users would be interested in more green space and activities to distract them from the time waiting. In developing this concept of an indoor green space, it acts as a park by allowing the passengers to have that freedom of choosing how and where they want to be while surrounded by plants and greenery. Multiple amenities spread throughout the space give passengers the option to de-stress while they wait for their flight. This communal space can be applied to any high traffic airport that has significant delays due to weather or population.
